Sarah Showalter, vocals & Piano

A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music (BMA Vocal Performance), Sarah has performed, taught and created music for more than 20 years. Sarah has given private lessons for voice, piano and dance to all ages, and choreographed for middle and high school swing choirs, as well as for adult dance troupes in San Francisco. She has a true passion for teaching voice, piano, dance, and music theory, especially to beginners, in a way that enlivens both the teacher and student.  Sarah knows that individuals learn and enjoy music in a variety of ways, and that teaching styles should absolutely reflect the individual's personal desires and preferences. It is through this process that teaching is most effective and enjoyable.  Sarah has also been lucky enough to have amazing performance experiences that include a solo piano performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, being a choral member of the 2006 Best Choral Performance/Best Classical Album Grammy Winner (William Bolcom's Songs of Innocence and Experience), as well as being a dancer alongside the Rockettes at America's largest outdoor musical theater (The Muny in St. Louis). In addition to regular swing and blues dancing in San Francisco, Sarah just completed her MA in Integrative Health Studies (2011) with which she seeks to integrate music (among other "alternative" modalities) into mainstream medical practices for health and healing.
