Jazz and Pop Harmony Choir

We will learn repertoire from jazz standards, to Bossa Nova, to Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel in 2-4 part harmony. Will learn how to blend and balance harmonies, beginning vocal improvisation, and basic vocal technique. This class is for singers with some group singing experience.

Instructor: Sandy Cressman
Bio: Sandy Cressman was educated at UC Berkeley and San Jose State University; She is an international performing and recording artist in the Vocal Jazz Ensemble genre (Vocal Group Pastiche) and Brazilian Jazz (leader of Homenagem Brasileira . Cressman's continuing exploration of various Vocal Techniques led her to create ConnectedVoice, a method for teaching vocal development and musicanship/eartraining simultaneously. Teaches ConnectedVoice technique, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Brazilian Jazz singing and Jazz Vocal Performance. Has been Artist-in Residence or lecturer at : Jazz Education Network Conference, Cornish Institute of the Arts, San Francisco State University, CSU Long Beach, KUG University(Graz Austria), ASMM(Paris), Voice Conference Munich, JazzCamp West, Stanford Jazz Camp, California Brazil Summer Camp. Sandy is currently on the faculty of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA, and Artist-in-Residence at the Nueva School in Hillsborough. Sandy released 3 CDs with Pastiche and 3 CDs with her Homenagem Brasileira quintet, as well as being featured artist with Ray Obiedo's Mistura Fina and Jai Uttal's Pagan Love Orchestra. Cressman is also an in-demand studio vocalist for Latin and World Jazz styles, most recently featured on "Bossa Nova Dreams" with Akira Tana, Branford Marsalis and Arturo Sandoval, as well as recording commercials and soundtracks.
